Professional Development Plan

National Board Certification

National Board Certification concentrates on education reform in the classroom—where teaching and learning takes place. National Board Certification is a demonstration of a teacher’s practice as measured against high and rigorous standards.

National Board licensing is valid for a period of ten years; however, it does not replace state licensing.  There is an application procedure that requires payment of $2,300 of which the State of Florida Department of Education with deadlines for application.  For information regarding the Miami-Dade County Public Schools program including applications and fee subsidy forms, contact Gabriel Quintero, District Director, at (305) 995-7179.  The National Board Certification website is: http://www.nbpts.org.

As a department head, encourage your teachers to seek national certification.  A list of national board certified teachers in business technology is available on the business technology website, http://bte.dadeschools.net.

State Certification

Involvement in school activities and committees – it is extremely important that as a department head that you get involved with school committees that affect decisions made in your school.  Volunteer to assist in planning activities and committees to enable other teachers and administrators to learn about the business technology programs.

Staff Development Activities – each year a survey is sent via email to all business teachers to see what workshops and inservice activities that they want.  From the survey the workshops offered during the year are scheduled and teachers have the opportunity to sign up for one of them on the form on the BTE web site.  Workshops are offered at the ITS Training Center and at some of our schools.  TEC credit is available for all workshops.

Special Training Sessions – when new software or programs are introduced, special training sessions are held with the teachers who will be using the hardware and/or software.
